Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church was founded in 1974 by Eld. Wesley Carter Howard. The church was called Zang Blvd. because the church was located on Zang Blvd. The church grew slowly. The membership increased by 5 members every two months or so. Sis. Howard who was in medical school at the time became disheartened. She was unsure of Eld. Howard's vision. She went on a three day and night fast and asked God to help her understand her husband's vision. During her fast, God showed her a vision of the current building that houses Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church. She was not lead by the Lord to reveal what she had seen to her husband. After her fast, Sis. Howard began to encourage Eld. Howard so enthusiastically, that it scared him. Once he said, "It scared me. One day, she was saying are you sure about having a church? The next day, she was saying don't give up. It's gonna be alright. It just scared me." By the end of 1984, the church was full to exceeding its capacity every Sunday for 11:00 AM service. It was time for the church building to be bigger. Dr. Howard was lead to tell her husband about the vision. She had a few years earlier. When she told her husband about her vision, Eld. Howard began to cry. He told her that what she said was the confirmation that he needed. The church began to prepare for a new church building. The old building was torn down on June 13, 1985. The services were moved to a neighborhood YMCA until the new building was complete. The construction too a year and a half to complete. On December 31, 1986, the first service was held in the new sanctuary. The saints shouted in the New Year in a new sanctuary. Nineteen eighty-six was a year of change for Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church. A lot of new things happened for Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church and its members. The largest number of new members and converts joined the church. A number of members got new got new jobs, houses, and other material things. Also in 1986, DM Adkins was appointed as the minister of music for Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church. She was an up and coming musician in the city and state. The youth director instituted a new youth service time at the church. Each Friday night at 10:30 PM, the youth hold service until 12:30 AM. This service is full of young people and older people as well. The service is conducted by young people. This is the second largely attended service at the church. The first service being the 11:00 AM Sunday service. In 1987, Eld. Howard began a fellowship with Eld. Jerome Singleton, pastor of the Powerhouse Church. The fellowship is called the Maddocha Fellowship of Pentecostal Churches. Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church is the headquarters of the Maddocha Fellowship of Pentecostal Churches. By the middle of 1992, an early Sunday morning service was needed because the 11:00 AM Sunday service was standing room only. Sunday School was moved to Tuesday night. Almost every service is packed at Zang Blvd. God is doing a mighty work at Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church. |
